My role

Where do you work?

I currently work as a senior planning and development consultant at NJL Consulting in their Manchester office.

Route into planning

Tell us about your route into planning

I studied geography at the University of Manchester and then went onto study a Masters in International Real Estate and Planning at UCL. I started my career working for a national consultancy based in London then moved to Manchester after the pandemic. The majority of my work specializes in large scale, mixed use development across the North West.

How does your role involve helping the public?

I work with Developers to secure planning permission for new schemes. This can include housing, shops, offices, television studios etc. Alongside the main use (e.g. housing), we aim to ensure that the development benefits the local community by providing public benefits such as play spaces, green spaces, money to be spend on infrastructure improvements, affordable housing and sometimes remediation of contaminated areas.

My community

Tell us about any work you've done to help your local community?

I have worked with a range of communities to ensure that planning and development works for them. I have listened to local residents at public consultations and taken their thoughts and opinions on board and ensured that their requests are considered when an application is being developed.

Your spare time

What do you do when you are not planning?

When I’m not working, I enjoy keeping active and spend a lot of time in the Peak District or when I’m able to- on the ski slopes! I’m an avid baker and spend a lot of time in the kitchen trying new recipes.
